| There is some discussion in the archives of the
Scottish Tartans Society that suggests that McIan may be responsible
for the change to an asymmetrical sett from Logan's earlier symmetrical
version. However, it appears that Wilson, the foremost weaver of the
time, may have agreed with McIan and favoured the unusual asymmetrical
design. The last chief of the Buchanans died in 1682.
